In-House Gemstone Cutting & Polishing Factory in Jaipur, India

DWS Jewellery cuts and polishes its own gemstones. Since 2020 our own gemstone department in Sitapura, Jaipur has turned rough stone into calibrated, finished gemstones for the jewellery we manufacture for brands, designers and retailers. Cutting in-house means we control the shape, size, colour matching and finish of every stone that goes into your designs, and we are not limited to the sizes that local traders happen to stock.

Our gemstone cutting process

These are the stone processes our department runs and records for every job:

1. Slicing - rough stone is cut into slabs and blocks in our slice department.
2. Pre-forming (ghat) - each piece is ground to the outline of the required shape.
3. Calibration (MM) - stones are brought to the exact millimetre size of the setting.
4. Tool cutting - special shapes are cut with special-tool cutting machines.
5. Faceting - faceted, checkerboard, rose-cut and step-cut stones are cut on faceting machines.
6. Polishing - edge (kinara) polishing, flat and cabochon (pota) polishing, and drum polishing for an even finish.
7. Carving - carved stones and figures for special designs.
8. Colour and quality control - colour checking and matching for pairs, sets and repeat orders, then QC before the stones go to our stone-setting department.

Drilling is also done in-house where a design needs it.

Gemstones we cut regularly

Among the 150+ materials in regular production: Kingman and Arizona turquoise, rainbow moonstone, black onyx, green onyx and red onyx, labradorite, aquamarine, rose quartz, crystal quartz, smoky quartz, amethyst, citrine, blue, pink, aqua and green chalcedony, lapis lazuli, Ethiopian opal, sunstone, garnet, carnelian, iolite, chrysoprase, aventurine, black rutile, malachite, peridot, tanzanite, moss agate, tiger eye, dendrite, mother of pearl, natural ruby and emerald; lab-grown stones such as lab-grown sapphire, morganite and emerald; and composite stones such as doublets. Lab-grown, synthetic, glass, cultured and composite (doublet) stones are always named as such on our documents and product descriptions.

Frequently asked questions

Does DWS Jewellery cut its own gemstones?

Yes. DWS Jewellery has cut its own gemstones since 2020. Its gemstone department in Jaipur has 80 workers and staff and a capacity of about 50,000 gemstone pieces per month, used in the jewellery DWS manufactures.

Which gemstone cuts can you make?

Cabochon, checkerboard, faceted, briolette, rose cut, step cut, flat cut and slices, coin, pyramid, beads and carvings, in calibrated millimetre sizes or custom shapes from your design.

Do you cut precious and lab-grown stones?

Yes. Besides 150+ semi-precious materials we cut natural ruby and emerald, lab-grown stones such as lab-grown sapphire, and synthetic and composite stones, always declared by name.

Is DWS Jewellery RJC certified for coloured gemstones?

DWS Jewellery is RJC Code of Practices certified (certificate 0000 7327, valid to 8 April 2029). The certified materials are diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, rubies, gold and silver, for the manufacturing of gold and silver jewellery studded with diamonds and colour gemstones.

Can you match stones to an existing design or sample?

Yes. Send your design, CAD or sample; we calibrate and cut stones to the setting size and match colour for pairs, sets and repeat orders.

Do you sell loose gemstones?

No. Our gemstone department cuts stones for the jewellery we manufacture. We supply finished jewellery, not loose stones.

What is your minimum order and lead time for gemstone jewellery?

Minimum order quantities start from 10 pieces per design. Samples usually take 2-3 weeks and bulk production 4-6 weeks, depending on design and quantity. See our FAQ for details.
